Bengali, indigenous culture

People belonging to different religions, castes, tribes and communities live in this upazila. Their main language is Bengali. Different types of religious festivals and events are held at different times of the year according to the precepts of their respective religions. It is noteworthy that Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha and Hindus celebrate Durga Puja and other rituals with pomp.


War of Liberation: In the Great War of Liberation in 1971, the brave warriors destroyed a huge Rantari (ship) armed with weapons of the Pakistani invaders in the Yamuna River.
